Informative Speaking
Event Description:
An original speech, written by the competitor, that teaches the audience about a topic. The goal is to explain, not to persuade.
Rules
- The speech must be the competitor's own work.
- No more than 150 words may be quoted from other sources.
- Delivered from memory. No notes or scripts.
- Visual aids are allowed, including physical objects, slides, audio, and video.
- Slides, audio, and video must be played on a screen or device the audience can see and hear through the camera. No screen sharing.
- Everything must happen live in the one continuous take. Nothing may be added in editing.
- Time limit: 10 minutes, including any audio or video played.
Grace period: competitors get 30 seconds past the time limit with no penalty. A competitor over the time limit plus the grace period may not be ranked first in that round. Time runs from the first word or movement of the performance to the last, and the judge times the video.
