Jack C Hays Hawkoween Classic TFA and NIETOC Qualifier

Tournament Invitation

Jack C. Hays Speech and Debate students cordially invite you and your team to the Jack C. Hays Hawkoween TFA Classic and NIETOC Qualifier on Saturday, October 24th. The tournament will be run entirely in person at Jack C. Hays High School in Buda, Texas. Buda is located just west of I-35, in between Austin and San Marcos. We are about twenty minutes south of Austin and 45 minutes north of San Antonio; reasonably priced hotels are available nearby for out-of-town guests.

Our tournament is Halloween-themed, featuring games, prizes, and fun. Guests may choose to wear Halloween costumes, with the permission of their coach.

We will be offering the following debate and speaking events: LD Debate, CX Debate, PF Debate, World Schools Debate, Congressional Debate (Student Congress), Foreign Extemp, Domestic Extemp, Original Oratory, Duo Interp, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Duet Acting, Informative Speaking, Program of Oral Interpretation, Prose, and Poetry.TFA rules and time limits will be followed in all events. LD and PF will use the September/October resolutions.

Numbers permitting, NOVICE DIVISIONS will be offered in LD Debate, PF Debate, CX Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Poetry, and Prose. The topic area for Novice Extemp will be Europe. The novice LD and PF resolutions will be the same as the Varsity resolutions.

Student Congress:We will use items 21-25 for prelims, 16-20 for semis (if needed) and 26-30 for finals.

World Schools Motions:
R1and R2-This House welcomes climate pessimism. Info slide: Climate pessimism is the viewpoint that catastrophic global heating and severe ecological breakdown cannot be fully prevented and we should make decisions based on this fact.
R3 - Impromptu Motion
Semis (If needed) - Impromptu Motion
Finals - This House believes democratic elections are better served by public financing than by privately funded campaigns. Info Slide: A publicly financed election is one in which candidates’ campaigns are funded by the state through public funds, such as tax revenues, rather than through private donations, corporate contributions, or candidates’ personal wealth.

We will not break brackets in Debate events

Prose and Poetry will be reader's choice (only one piece is required for this tournament)

Awards will be announced on a rolling basis throughout the afternoon
