Welcome to the 3rd Annual Cowboy Debates hosted by Edna High School in Edna, Texas!
The Debates will take place on Saturday November 7, 2026. This tournament/judges are geared to the UIL style of debate. We will do our best to have judging philosophies available to all teams prior to the tournament.
Debate Divisions offered:
CX (Novice and Varsity)
LD (Novice and Varsity)
Speech:
Prose, Poetry and Extemp ( Informative and Persuasive)
We will have 4 rounds of debate. Policy/LD will be Power matched after round 3. NOTE: If a division does not have enough entries to make, divisions will be collapsed. We will try our best to prevent this. We will consult coaches in advance if an event needs to be collapsed.
Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division. Edna High School students may be competing
CX will use the National topic, Resolved: The United States Federal Government should establish national health insurance in the United States.
LD will use the UIL Fall topic, Resolved:
Category B for Prelims and Category A for Finals.
Fees:
CX-$35
LD-$25
Ext/PRO/POE-$15
Judging: We ask that schools provide 1 judge per 2 entries in Debate and IE’s. A $50 judges fee will be added to your invoice for all judges you are not able to provide.
Drops: After November 5th will result in a $50 nuisance fee payable before Round 1.
Parking: Parking map is attached.
Concessions: for students will be available from 10am-4pm and are located in the cafeteria. Pizza deals will be available for purchase and can be added in online registration.

Selfie Station: A western themed backdrop will be available for photos (located in room cafeteria). We encourage students to take as many pics as you want but please leave all props in the basket beside the backdrop. Also…to commemorate this tournament use #cowboydebates when posting on all of your favorite social media outlets!
Holding Space: Students/Participants will be held in the Cafeteria between contests.
Tab room & Hospitality: Both located in the Media center (Library) at the end of the hallway. Light breakfast will be available and lunch (for coaches and judges) served from 11am-2pm!
