Hello and Welcome to the Gilbert Water Tower Tournament!
We're hosting our SPEECH ONLY tournament at this location:
Gilbert High School
1101 E Elliot Rd
Gilbert, AZ 85234
Offered Events
The following events will be offered at our tournament for high school: Original Oratory, Informative, POI, DI, HI, Duo, OSW, Poetry, Prose, Storytelling, Mixed (US/I) Extemp, Expository, Impromptu, and Radio Duos. Now also featuring SPAR debate!
Students WILL NOT be allowed to enter in both Extemp and Radio, as both of these events require a 30 prep period. Students may enter up to two events. OSW, Prose Interp, and Radio Duos will be conducted with Arizona rules to offer students the most amount of feedback on their piece(s) for Nationals.
The following events will be offered at our tournament for middle school: Original Oratory, Duo, Impromptu, Storytelling, Declamation, Prose, Radio Duos.
JUDGING
All teams must bring one judge per 5 entries in IE.
High School judge quotas are calculated separately from middle school judge quotas. Example: if a team brings 3 high school entries and 2 middle school entries, they must provide 1 judge for the high school pool and 1 judge for the middle school pool.
Junior and senior high school students who are NOT competing and who are NSDA members in good standing with at least 250 Honor Society points are invited to judge MIDDLE SCHOOL EVENTS ONLY.Coaches, please make sure to place your student judges in the correct pool (labeled HS Judging MS Events) because no high school students may judge high school events.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
READ THE INVITE FOR RULES. This tournament is meant to help students prepare for Nationals, so maybe read the invite and/orNats rules before you prep your competitors.
OSW, Prose, and Radio will be AZ rules. EVERY other event will be Nationals rules (linked above) and on the right. In accordance with NSDA's policies for 2025-2026, NO GENERATIVE AI may be used in round. If a competitor is found to violate this rule, they will be disqualified. You can try to yell at Tab or Kaylee about this, but it will be for naught.
SPAR Debate guideline is on the right for your reference. This is not a Nationals event, but it is fun!
