1st Annual Monterey Madness TFA

Hello all,
We are excited to host the 1st Monterey Madness Speech and Debate tournament this year! We graciously welcome each and every one of you to attend our tournament. We hope to provide a positive and exciting competition experience. To make that happen, please expect to judge multiple rounds.
Address, Parking and Entrances:
Monterey High School is located at 3211 47th St. Lubbock, TX 79413. Everyone should park in the cafeteria lot on 50th and Gary. There will be some additional parking across from the auditorium if needed. All entrances other than the cafeteria will remain locked for the tournament. The cafeteria will lock at 8 pm for safety reasons.
We will be offering the following IE events:
Poetry & Prose (Reader’s choice), HI, DI, POI, OO, INFO, FX, DX, Impromptu, DUO, and DUET
We will also be offering the following debate events:
Lincoln Douglas - Resolved: In the United States criminal justice system, plea bargaining is just.
Cross-examination - Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly increase its exploration and/or development of the Arctic.
Congress will utilize the TFA docket:
Prelims: 1-5
Finals: 6-10
Entries are due by October 7th at 5:00 pm. Drops must be registered before October 8th at 5:00 pm. Entry fees are $15.00 for IEs, Duo, Duet, and Congress and $20.00 for LD and CX.
The top three schools will be honored for overall sweepstakes. The following is the sweepstakes formula:

1st - 12 points
2nd - 10 points
3rd - 8 points
4th - 6 points
5th-8th - 4 points
Debate:
12 -1st place
10 - 2nd place
8 - Semis

1:15 pm - Rd 2 Pattern B, Congress Finals
2:30 pm - Semis LD, CX
3:00 pm - Finals Pattern A
4:00 pm - Finals LD
4:30 pm - Finals Pattern B, Finals CX

Please note that our school intends to participate in the TFA initiative that allows students from the host school to compete. Please expect our novice speakers in rounds.
