TFA and Novice Speech and Debate Tournament

Dear Coaches

We are delighted to inform you of an excellent opportunity for both your varsity and very novice students to compete and participate in our one day tournament.

We will have a live doc that will be updated as more details and information comes available.

We will have a TFA Varsity section that will have all the varsity TFA debate (CX, PF, Congress, World Schools, and LD) speaking events (International Extemp, Domestic Extemp, Info, and OO) and interpretation events (POI, HI DI, DUO, Poetry, and Prose).

Second, hospitality.

Coaches and judges will be provided with yummy warm breakfast, snacks, and lunch in the lounges at Lebanon Trail High School.

We will be providing donuts to student participants in Interpretation, Speech, and Debate events.

Concessions for students to purchase will be available as well.

AWARDS (already ordered)

Top 3 debate speakers will receive gavels and top 5 teams will receive trophies.

Top 10 Congress debaters will receive legal pad covers and top 3 will receive plaques.

Sweepstakes awards will be given to top overall team and Top Debate and Top Individual Event Teams.

Gold Best in District Cup for Top Frisco School participating (Lebanon Trail may have a handful of competitors but will not count towards to Best in District Cup award.

All Individual event finalists will receive a medal and top 3 will receive trophies.

Third- Registration- All registration occurs in Tabroom.

Fourth, NOVICE.

Special NOVICE WORKSHOPS with opportunities for students to compete. Our novice divisions will have a 2 hour workshop with a paired round in tabroom for debate, speaking, or interpretation events. The cost is $20 per student per Novice workshop with practice round. Digital and Printed materials will be given to both coach and students.

A completely new student can get a full workshop with varsity competitors demonstrating the event and going over questions and answers. The novice division will have a single competition round. Each student will receive a certificate of completion and awards for their practice round.

Special Note- Novice section of Speaking events will have example for UIL extemp.

POLICY NOVICE division will only use the NDCA novice packet for materials. The NDCA has released the first wave of the novice policy files, complete with curriculum and even course modules your students can use to measure progress! You can find the full set of files and curriculumhere

The novice policy division competitors must use the NDCA Novice Packet, following the rollout schedule outlined here. Only authorized NDCA files will be allowed in our novice policy division. The workshop will go over Domain Awareness Aff and case neg (no counterplan)

No changes to the files [including tags or evidence] will be allowed. Debaters are encouraged to make their own non-carded arguments, as analytical arguments and extensions, including overviews and explanations of arguments.

Anyone registering novice policy teams should plan to abide by the evidence restrictions in the division. Novice policy judges will be educated about the packet and the restrictions prior to judging in the division.

Topics- (All Extemp questions will be written by Cheryl Potts and Extemp Draw will also be run by Mrs. Potts)

PF will compete using the NSDA Sept/October topic Resolved: The United Kingdom should rejoin the European Union.

LD will compete using the NSDA Sept/October topic Resolved: In the United States criminal justice system, plea bargaining is just.

Policy will compete using the 2025-2026 CX topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly increase its exploration and/or development of the Arctic.

Congress will use the TFA Fall 2025 legislation 1,3,6,7 prelim and 2,4,5 Finals.

World Schools will start with prepared rounds and more detailed schedule to follow. Prepared motion:

This House, as a government, would prioritize financing space exploration over financing deep sea exploration.
