2025 Hacienda La Puente “Christmas in (Southern) California”

Invitational Speech Tournament

Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the Inaugural Hacienda La Puente (HLPUSD) Christmas in (Southern) California tournament. This tournament is for high school students in 9th through 12th grade. We are excited to welcome you to the Wilson High School Campus in Hacienda Heights for a joyous Christmas speech celebration!

This tournament is open to all high school degree-granting institutions.

Independent entries are welcome, please email the tournament director for more information and questions.

We will offer three rounds and a final in all NSDA H.S. speech events: Oratory, Informative, Extemp (Round 1: US / Round 2: IX / Round 3: Mix / Finals: Current Events), Impromptu, Drama, Humorous, POI, Original Spoken Word, and Duo in both Varsity and Novice Divisions.

A NOVICE student is any competitor in their first year of high school speech competition.

This tournament will be in person on the campus of Wilson HS, in Hacienda Heights, CA (16455 Wedgeworth Avenue, Hacienda Heights CA 91745)

ADULT COACH/COACH: Each team must have a school approved adult coach/chaperone on campus for immediate contact throughout the tournament.

JUDGES: Schools are required to bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction thereof.

SCHEDULE:(tentative: The tournament will try to accelerate the schedule as much as possible)

All events will run concurrently (ext. Draw will be 30 minutes prior to each round)

8:00 - 9:00 a.m. - Registration

9:15 a.m - 10:30 a.m. - Round 1 (ext Draw @ 8:45 a.m.)

11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Round 2 (ext. Draw @ 10:30 a.m.)

1:00 p.m - 2:30 p.m. Round 3 (ext. Draw @ 12:30 p.m.)

3:00 - 4:30 p.m. - Finals (ext. Draw @ 2:30 p.m.)

5:00 p.m. Awards (or ASAP)

FEES: Each entry (including Duo) is $15. Fees will be frozen at 3pm (PST) on Monday, December 15th, 2025.

There will be a $25 school fee

Schools may mail checks PAYABLE TO:

Credit Card payment will be accepted but will incur an additional 3% fee

REGISTRATIONwill begin at 7:00 A.M. on August 1st, 2025 and end on December 12th, 2025 at 5:00 p.m..by the adult coach/chaperone listed.

AWARDSAwards will be given to the top 6 entries in each event, each division and presented at the awards ceremony

Drops/Name changes can be made on the website until Monday, December 15th, 2025 Fees are frozen at 5pm on December 15th, 2025.
