4th Annual Poorna Foundation Speech and Debate Showcase

Tournament Overview: We welcome you to the 4th annual Poorna Foundation Speech and Debate Showcase! This tournament is a closed-entry event meant to show how our campers have developed their skills over the past two weeks. We wish all our campers good luck, and we hope that they perform well!

Organization Overview: Poorna Foundation aims to aid underprivileged people in our community. We focus on education and personal development. We believe K-12 education should be every child’s right, as it is a bridge to opportunity and a path to stability. Our work is to provide moral and financial support to bright students who are less fortunate. We try to remove obstacles so they can dream big and walk to achieve those dreams.

Our speech and debate camp is run "by students, for students". We spend our time curating lesson plans and activities to ensure that campers have the best camp experience possible. We work with our students in groups and one-on-one to make sure they're learning everything correctly and implementing it in their work. The goal of this camp is to improve equality in the Houston debate space and encourage middle schoolers to enter middle school and high school forensics (speech and debate). Often, the entry barrier for forensics is high, with expensive camps, coaches, and tournaments. We wanted to provide this free camp in order to lower the barrier and encourage students to enter forensics with a more equitable start. Thanks to volunteers and coaches who are also dedicated to this message, we are able to provide this camp at a minimal cost.
