Events

The Bettendorf MS Invitational will offer a wide range of events that are fully supported by the National Speech and Debate Association. For a full breakdown of the events, you can find more information here: https://www.speechanddebate.org/competition-events/. As this is our first outing in almost a decade, we are going to limit our offerings to the following events:

Debate Events

Lincoln-Douglas Debate - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. The topic used for the Bulldog Invitational will be the March/April topic, which is: Resolved: The United States military ought to abide by the principle of non-intervention. A student can only register in one Debate event.

Public Forum Debate - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. The topic used for the Bulldog Invitational will be the March topic, which is: Resolved: The United States federal government should ban corporate acquisition of single-family residences. A student can only register in one Debate event.

Speech Events

Dramatic Interpretation - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. One person will act out a dramatic selection. Students may double-enter in an additional Speech event, if desired.

Duo Interpretation - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. Two people will act out a selection. Students may double-enter in an additional Speech event, if desired.

Humorous Interpretation - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. One person will act out a humorous selection. Students may double-enter in an additional Speech event, if desired.

Informative Speaking - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. One person will present an informative speech on a topic of their choosing. Visuals are allowed following the NSDA guidelines, but are not required. Students may double-enter in an additional Speech event, if desired.

Original Oratory - This event will follow the structure provided by the NSDA. One person will present a persuasive speech on a topic of their choosing. Students may double-enter in an additional Speech event, if desired.
